If the sacred-secular distinction fades and we grant that all truth is God's truth, then intellectual work can be God's work as much as preaching the gospel, feeding the hungry or healing the sick. It too is a sacred task."

Some guiding convictions

Contemporary Christians live in a world that is saturated with information and powerful images but shuns honest intellectual life. Faced with daily challenges and alternatives to their faith, believers must be equipped with wise teaching and deep thinking about God, the world and the person.

All truth finds its source in God’s good creation. All truth stands under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. (This statement echoes the Barmen Confession.)

God’s Truth underlies all creative, intellectual and moral activity and is expressed in exquisitely diverse ways.

“Theology wrestles with questions of meaning, truth, beauty and practice in relation to the whole of reality before God. Theology explores dimensions of life that academic learning tends to bracket out-suffering, joy, the purpose of existence.” David Ford

The work of thinking theologically is an act of authentic discipleship.

Christ invites us into a radical transformation of all we have and are---body, soul and mind.

Christian faith is not just a plausible intellectual position but is also a compelling way of life in community.

To live faithfully in the world, Christians must take an active part in shaping our society, powerfully bearing witness to God’s Kingdom in the church, the academy and the community.
