This special virtual gathering brought New York Times bestselling author and Duke Associate professor of religion, Kate Bowler, PhD, together with four members of the Charlottesville medical community to reflect on the different ways patients, clinicians, and other caregivers are reimaging care right now amidst unique challenges and differing contexts. Contributors included:
Taylor Harris, author of the highly acclaimed memoir This Boy We Made as well as various articles which have appeared in The New York Times, Time, O Quarterly, The Washington Post, Longreads, The Cut, Romper, Parents, McSweeney’s, and elsewhere;
Dr. Taison Bell, Assistant Professor of Medicine in the divisions of Infectious Disease and Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine at the University of Virginia and Director of the Medical Intensive Care Unit;
Ann Marie Smith, currently serving as the adult oncology chaplain at the Emily Couric Cancer Center, a career which grew out of her experience with cancer in 2008, and;
Dr. Timothy Short, Chief Medical Officer and Director of the Education Institute at Hospice of the Piedmont and a former associate professor of medicine in palliative care at the University of Virginia. .
