Yes! I will be there.

The Scoper Lecture in Christian Thought with David French and Nancy French

Theological Horizons proudly presents renowned New York Times opinion writer David French and best selling author Nancy French as the 2026 Scoper Lecturers in Christian Thought, featuring music by Paul Zach of The Porter’s Gate, in UVA’s Old Cabell Hall at 3:30pm on Sunday, March 22.

In their conversational lecture “Telling the Truth: Stories of Courage, Conflict and Connection,” Nancy and David will recount the personal and political costs of speaking inconvenient truths – and testify to the promise of courageous honesty.  This conversation is for anyone who longs for authenticity, boldness and hope amidst fracture and conflict.

Nancy French’s memoir, Ghosted: An American Story, has been named 2025 Christian Book of the Year.  She conducted a multi-year journalistic investigation into sexual abuse at a one of the largest Christian camps, has published for the nation’s most prominent newspapers and collaborated on multiple books for celebrities. Nancy is the co-author of The After Party: Toward Better Christian Politics.

David French is an Opinion columnist for The New York Times, where he writes about law, culture, religion, and armed conflict. His most recent book is Divided We Fall: America’s Secession Threat and How to Restore Our Nation.  David calls himself an evangelical conservative who believes in a classical liberal, pluralistic vision of American democracy in which people with deep religious, cultural, and moral differences can live and work together with equal legal protection and shared cultural tolerance

“At a time of extraordinary fury, we all live in a degree of pain. We all live with regrets. But hope can come from unexpected places…[and] teach us that only repentance can heal our broken hearts." - David French
