Karen Marsh on the Dear Daughters Show

Listen to Karen's interview with author and blogger Susie Davis.

Writes Susie, "Karen Wright Marsh is a fellow table person, storyteller, writer, and theologian. She lives in Charlottesville, Virginia with her husband where she runs a non-profit, Theological Horizons. She also created The Bonhoeffer House out of their own home because she wanted a space for 'meals and interactions and meetings about faith, thought and life.' Don’t you just want to go to her house for pie right now?"

John M. Perkins Capps Lecture on Racial Reconciliation

On Sunday, November 1st, the UVa hall was filled, standing room only.  When you watch Dr. Perkins and hear his words, you will no doubt sense the incredible blessing and challenge he brought to all of us.  The question and answer portion shows you how he interacts with others from all different points of view; don't miss that!

Dr. Perkins spoke at seven different events over four days with us--speaking to many groups at the Bonhoeffer House and at nearby Common Grounds: a small group of Multicultural Young Life leaders; University of Virginia faculty, administrative and student leaders; community developers and ministers, our Perkins Fellows and other students--and so many other individuals along the way.

Writing About God by Lauren Winner

Award-winning author Lauren Winner discussed the power and problems of writing spiritual memoir before a standing room audience in the Rotunda’s Dome Room at the University of Virginia. Winner drew from her own recent book, Still: Notes on a Mid-Faith Crisis, which Christianity Today has declared “an instant spiritual classic.” Her compelling lecture explored why we are so drawn to spiritual autobiography - the narrative accounts of God's gracious movement in our lives.

Lauren Winner is a professor of Christian spirituality at Duke Divinity School, an ordained minister and a contributor to the New York Times Book Review and the Washington Post. Her lecture was the latest in our Capps Lectures, which bring eminent Christian scholars to the heart of the Academy to trace the connections between vibrant faith and social engagement. The series is endowed by Dr. and Mrs. W. Jerry Capps of Atlanta.

Though Thomas Jefferson designed his famous Rotunda to reflect the “authority of nature and power of reason,” even there God’s truth is declared through the annual Capps Lectures. You can watch Winner’s lecture on YouTube under the title: “Lauren Winner Shares Insights In ‘Writing About God’.”
